چکیده
Cortisone acetate (Long & Miles, 1950) and hydro. cortisone (Long & Spensley, 1954) depress sensitivity to tuberculin in guinea pigs. This desensitization does not occur in guinea pigs mildly deficient in ascorbic acid, and is thought to be associated with the oxidation of ascorbic acid to dehydroascorbic acid. There appears to exist an antagonism between corticosteroid desensitizing agents and glutathione in that injection of reduced glutathione prevents desensitization in all cases (Long, 1954). From these findings it has been suggested that adrenocortical activity is intimately concerned in -SH metabolism. There is evidence that adrenocortical stimulation or the injection of corticotrophin or of cortisone acetate decreases blood non-protein -SH. Cortisone has been shown to cause a decrease in blood glutathione in the rat proportional to the glycosuria produced (Lazarow & Berman, 1950). Several workers have shown that in man, cortisone treatment results in decreased blood glutathione proportional to the increase in blood sugar (Hess, Kyle & Doolan, 1951; Goldzeiher, Epstein, Rawls & Goldzeiher, 1953; Kass, Ingbar & Finland, 1950). In agreement with this, Conn and his colleagues (Conn, Louis & Wheeler, 1948; Conn, Louis & Johnston, 1949a, b) have shown that corticotrophin induced hyperglycaemia and a fall in blood non-protein -SH in man, and that pretreatment with glutathione alleviated the hyperglycaemia.

Alteration in the primary metabolites in three different tissues of silkworm, Bombyx mori L. under the influence of a Juvenoid, R394
A bivoltine silkworm hybrid, KA x NB4D2 was treated with the juvenoid R394 (Ethyl-9 cyclohexyl-3,7-dimethyl-2,4-nonadienoate) at a dose of 0.039 nl/larva at 24, 48, 72 and 96 h of 5th instar for silk yield improvement. Treatment specific significant increase was observed in the cocoon and shell weight with no such marked variation in the shell percentage. Notable changes were also seen in tr...
متن کاملEffect of Dry Matter Content and Inoculation on Ruminal Protein Degradability in Alfalfa Silages
The aim of the experiment was to determine the effect of different dry matter content and addition of silage inoculant on the ruminal protein degradability. Alfalfa herbage was collected from two cuts and the fresh matter was sampled two times during each cut (with different dry matter content). During the preparation of experimental micro-silages, the chopped forage was treated with a microbia...
متن کاملInfluence of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi symbiosis with different pistachio rootstocks in salinity stress condition
This study was designed to investigate the effect of Mycorrhiza symbiosis on some orphophysiological characteristics of four different pistachio rootstocks under salinity stress. This research was conducted in a completely randomized design with factorial arrangement with three factors. The factors were included rootstocks at four levels (Badami-e Riz Zarand, Qazvini, Sarakhs, and UCB1), mycorr...
متن کاملSafety Assessment of cryIAc for human, animals and environment
Risk assessment of a transgene is one of the key steps in genetic transformation. Hence, in order to use cryIAc gene for production of transgenic plants, a library and in-silico research was performed to confirm safety of the gene for human comsumption, animal feed and environment. In the first step, the molecular mechanism of action of the CryIAc protein and its specific receptors in the midgu...
متن کاملChemical composition and protein enrichment of orange peels and sugar beet pulp after fermentation by two Trichoderma species
The present experiment aimed at increasing orange peel and sugar beet pulp protein content through solid-state fermentation by Trichoderma reesei and Trichoderma viride. In vitro digestibility and changes in the chemical composition of the fermented products were determined after seven days of fungal cultivation using gas production tests. The cultivation of T. reesei and T. viride on orange pe...
